journey to kent 27th december 2014
we were on a train to kings cross which we were told we had to change at Peterborough and go to finsbury park - made me think of holocaust or images of indian train travel - everyone had extra luggage as it was christmas - forced to stand in a very awkward position trying to hold onto luggage and hand rails has twisted my knee and back out again - at some station on the outskirts it was announced that there were at least 5 trains backed up in front of us that had so far been sitting there for at least 50 mins and at that point we had already missed our coach connection to kent - we were told we could leave the train there and try to make our own way the rest of the journey - luckily my mother was able to book us the last 2 spaces on a later coach but i'll have to claim compensation as she had to pay out again for the tickets - then everyone started to pile out of the train - some went in hope of a bus - many of us went to the taxi cab window in the station to be told no taxis available - loads of people joined an enormous queue for what turned out to me a really small bus so loads left waiting and we didnt even bother - we called a local taxi firm to take us to the nearest tube station and got tube to euston and eventually got to victoria for the later coach - so exhausted we slept all the way to kent- i had met people who had left home at 4am and had to travel standing from glasgow etc - when we travelled back yesterday there were still huge queues at victoria and we found that the problems on the 27th had caused errors on our oyster cards leaving them with no credit so after being stuck in the crowd to get through the gates we had to go back to the window to get the errors rectified but but the system would only allow one error to be corrected to i have to phone up to get the second one sorted out - then the train arrived at our connection point late so we had to wait some time for the next available one
